Coming Soon: Top 5 March Potentials

March is rapidly approaching, and here on the Blogspot I figured I’d give you my best guess as to what to see next month. Here goes:

1. “Watchmen”
With all the hype behind it, and based on solid source material, “Watchmen” has everything going for it to be one of the year’s biggest films, and quite possibly one of the best superhero films of the decade (which, quite frankly, is saying a lot!). Zack Snyder directs this effect-fueled sci-fi thriller, and Jackie Earle Haley, Patrick Wilson, and Carla Gugino star. Based on the successful graphic novel by Alan Moore.

2. “Monsters vs. Aliens”
This one will either be great for the family, like “Finding Nemo” and “Toy Story,” or simply children’s fare, like “Chicken Little.” Where the former two films provided excellent plots with enjoyable humor, the latter was silly and felt lost in the woods. Let’s hope Dreamworks’ “Monsters vs. Aliens” can find its way out.

3. “Sunshine Cleaning”
Scheduled for a limited release on March 13, “Sunshine Cleaning” comes to us from the makers of “Little Miss Sunshine.” It’s a comedy about two young women who start a cleaning business for the messes of the deceased. It looks very light-hearted, uplifting, funny… the perfect date movie. I wouldn’t be surprised if this gets a wide release after a warm reception.

4. “Race to Witch Mountain”
Disney is bringing back the old “Witch Mountain” storyline, this time with two new kids helped by none other than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The film looks action-packed, and very promising. Having The Rock in their corner helps a bit as well. I’m looking forward to this one.

5. “Knowing”
Alex Proyas (director of “Dark City”), directs this film starring Nicolas Cage about an artifact that can predict natural disasters and other occurrences. Normally, I’d be hesitant toward this one, but Proyas has a keen eye for science-fiction, and this one could be a sleeper. Might be worth a matinee.

I sure hope you see some of these. Although, all that basketball on TV sure makes it hard to leave the house… see you in the back row!
